what would be or are your "firsts" in music?

Sign in to disble this ad
basically things like first song you learned to play, first song you played or would like to play live, and other things lets get something going add other things you think of.

for me first song i tried to learn was damage case by motorhead

the first song i actually played correctly was let there be rock by AC/DC

and let there be rock would also be the first song i would like to play live when i get a band together.

First song = Iron Man. Cliche, I know...
First song played 'correctly' = I'll let you know when that happens
First bass = Frankenstein P-bass with parts all from the 1960s except the electronics and bridge
First gig = ~1987 as a junior high kid at a house party. We had high school girls dancing to a song I wrote on my couch. I was sold...
First bar gig = A bar in Santa Monica on the same night that OJ was running from the law. The bar pushed our gig back until it was resolved.

First song learned/learned correctly: "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream

First bass: '72 Fender P bought new, traded a couple of months later for a dinged Jazz in the same shop, the neck of which I could handle; the P's neck felt like the business end of a Louisville Slugger.

First amp: used silverface Fender Bandmaster, IIRC, with a 2x12 cabinet

First band/gig: A fifties combo called Bobby and the Sox. Played at a warming house at a nearby city park for about 40-50 kids. I'd been playing bass for six weeks and got through all the I-IV-V stuff without a hitch.

First brush with future fame: rehearsed a band for a few weeks with Desmond Dickerson, who went on to be the lead player in Prince's band, back in 1974. Mopey keyboards player left and band broke up.

Crap. Me too! Blonde, 5'8"? Just kidding. The first girl that slept with me did it despite the fact that I am a musician.
