What would be your ideal line-up?

If you could create a perfect band, who would be its members?

Rules:

- The bassist CANNOT be you
- It has to be composed of LIVING well-known musicians
- There's no maximum number of musicians, but remember that it's a band, not an orchestra
- State the kind of music this band would play

My band (you can give it a name, but you don't have to)
Guitar: Slash of Velvet Revolver
Bass: Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers
Vocals: Steven Tyler of Aerosmith
Drums: Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers

They would play all kinds of Rock

Hmm... Here's my picks.

Guitar: Tom Morello (R.A.T.M./Audioslave)
Bass: Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Drums: DannyCarey (Tool)
Vocals: Serj Tankian (System of a Down)

If they all got together and made a song, I'd go insane with happiness. Maybe not form an actual band though, I love their work in their respective bands too

Basically, Oysterhead with a good keyboardist. That would get pretty trippy in jams, it could also get pretty intense....

Progressive Metal Band:

Bass Guitar - Steve DiGiorgio
Guitar (+ Backing Vocals) - Dave Mustaine
Guitar - Kirk Hammett
Keyboards - Jonny Heerema
Drums/Percussion - Neil Peart
Vocals - Bruce Dickinson
Lyrics - Geoff Tate

Simply unstoppable they would be. And, thanks to Geoff Tate writing all the lyrics, this band would only ever make concept albums.

Drums - Charles Benate
Bass - Scott Reeder
Rhythm Guitar - Jon Schaffer
Lead Guitar - Dave Mustaine
Vocals - James Hetfield

Thrash metal supergroup, sans Cliff Burton but with the best replacement I could find, Reeder. Just getting Schaffer and Mustaine not to pick on Jaymzzz would be the main dilemma with this group though.

Bass: Joe Osborne (needs no introduction)
Drums: Buddy Harman (played on 'Pretty Woman')

Experimental Rock with a Retro Flair
  • Vox = David Bowie
  • Vox = Elvis Costello (who would also contribute on guitar)
  • Vox/Bass = Paul McCartney (who would also contribute piano/organ)
  • Vox = Roger Daltry
  • Vox = Joni Mitchell
  • Guitar 1 = Lindsey Buckingham (Vox too)
  • Guitar 2 = John Fruscante
  • Guitar 3 = Pete Townshend
  • Bass = John Paul Jones (and mandolin/melotron/farfisa/organ)

Backing and sometimes fronting vox would include:
  • Sinead O'connor
  • Chrissy Hinde (guitar too)
  • Michael MacDonald (ok... piano too - but his voice in any backing situation really enhances things)
