Hey whats up, Im a noob bassist, I want to know what you are listening to. Im trying to expand my music a bit. Now my mp3 player is loaded with System of a Down, tons of Les and Primus, Rage against the machine/Audioslave and all the classics like Zepplin, Doors,Aerosmith, ACDC and stuff like that. (also loaded my mp3 player with some stuff im not real proud of because I like their basslines like The Cure, Kool and the Gang and Grand Funk Railroad.)

Im learning on a new fender jazz bass also have a friends pimp'd out fender p-bass.

Any good listening selections that could possibly even be playable? What are you listening to now?

Over the last few months I've been learning the basslines from Isis. They aren't exactly hard, but it's similar to the Pink Floyd method of keeping it simple and still making it creative.

As far as funk goes, Porcupine Tree's earlier material is pretty funky, I highly suggest that.

There's a thread called "Now Playing" over in Recordings as well that you may want to check out. it has many, many pages of selections that your fellow TB'ers have been listening to.

Really? That's pretty cool (the knowing part, not when they started, heh).

You know, my band would always be willing to support them if they needed

Yeah Wolfmother is pretty great. It's about all I've been listening to in the car for the last few weeks. Then again my car trips are pretty short but still. Kick ass.

I'm a fan, but they are not really classic prog oriented at all. Maybe a very very slight Captain Beyond influence... but less proggy.
