Well, I had a friend (who doesn't play bass) come up to me and ask me what I named my bass... i didn't know what to say, so i said the first thing that came to head, which happened to be Vanessa so, do you have a name for your bass, and if yes, what is it? |

Well, in order of appearance in my life (just the ones I still own):
1- Ibanez RB850, 1985, named "Gennaro" (man's name pretty common in my hometown)
2- Ibanez MC2924, 1987: named "Gaetano" (see above)
3- Danelectro Longhorn 199RI: named "L'Ostrica" (The Oyster - my girlfriend of that age called it this way because she said it looked and sounded like an oyster)
4- Ibanez SRX355, 2007: named "'O Jammone" (The Big Man, in my hometown dialect)
5- Squier CV J, 2010, quite modded: named "Palo 'e Fierro" (Iron Pole, nickname of a soccer palyer who was a myth for me in my childhood - not so famous, after all)
6- Squier CV P 60's, 2010: named "Peppino" (short for Giuseppe, Joseph)
7- Fender J MIM, 1991, quite modded: named "Nino" (short for Giovanni, John, in honor of my girlfriend's cat that's named Nina, is also black and white and comes from the same city).
They're all male names, but in italian "Basso" is a male noun. My two guitars have female names, anyway.
Does anybody give a damn about my basses' names? No? Anyway, it's the best part of these topics...

basses. Of course my amps have names. Big rig, little rig, practice rig in Gates and practice rig in Rochester. Sorry, I could not resist.

I call her "Thumper". |

I thought about names a few times but nothing sticks. Maybe Ray, Jay, Peeet, Woody, Mike, Happy (the fretless) and Vagabond (the paddle bass)??

The other is Grace. Because the ease of the fb is graceful and elegant.
Then there is Debby.

The job-Danelectro longhorn, just works.
The doc-Peavey grind natural, she'll fix you right up, this on bass got me playing again after a long hiatus.
The mistress-my first bass, a Samick P a J, sexy and without much substance, still can't put her down. |
