As the '80s grew, I became quite discouraged with rock n' roll and began ignoring it altogether. During that time period I began exploring with other types of music like jazz, new-age...whatever other stuff (though I was already very much into bluegrass). Anyway, sometime in the early '90s, I was sitting at work and hadn't bother changing the radio station from where it was when I started my shift.

All of a sudden I heard something I hadn't heard in a long time. I was hearing some down-right crankin' jammin' rock tunage! I jumped up from behind my desk and yelled (litterally) "YES! ROCK N' ROLL IS BACK!!!

I later found out the tune was STP's (whom I hadn't heard of before then) 'Sex Type Thing'.

Life got better after that.

I think STP for the most part was one of these bands that got better with each passing record. Purple and Tiny Music are nearly flawless to my ears.

Saw them for the first time last July in Berkeley.

The band pulled no punches, Scott worked the stage with total ease, and the light show/backdrop screen work was probably the best I had seen in memory.

I'd buy another ticket in a heartbeat!
