What are your Jam riffs?

Sign in to disble this ad
When you jam with other musicians, what riffs/grooves do you pull out?

Apart from improv, I usually have fun with;

Herbie Hancock - Chameleon

Jamiroquai - Mr Moon, High Times, Too Young to Die

Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight

Incubus - Battlestar Scralatchtica

Kool & The Gang - Jungle Boogie

Earth, Wind & Fire - Brick House

And others...

I let whoever is doing vocals decide.
If I've heard the tune before, I am fine with it.

Never under-estimate a well-honed ear for playing. It saved my a$$ many times over.

Not sure if this qualifies, but if I'm ever A/B'ing basses, or just gettting soundcheck, its always:

YYZ - Rush

Funny, I never played that song with a band, ever....

"Rock Box" (Run-DMC), "Anoother Victory" (Big Daddy Kane -- can't remember the name of the Booker T & The MG's song it was sampled from), and various Flipper riffs.

If I jam with someone, I don't do covers, but I do throw in a riff from some other song from time to time to see if anyone notices.

I ususally dont do covers either, but I am known to "draw inspiration" from other songs while jamming.

I'm not 100% sure on this one, but I think the Commodores were more responsible for "Brickhouse", then Earth, Wind & Fire.

And, when "jamming", I play whatever I hear.

that's about it with me... start with a motif and then have a coversation (through my bass) with the other musicians in the room...
