After years of great experiences with Musicians Friend, I finally had an issue. I've heard stories like this, but finally experienced it.

Bought something listed as NEW and received an opened box with obviously used gear. Along with less obvious signs, it included plastic screwdriver that had the tip snapped off from whoever had it first.

I sent it back for a new one (crossing fingers) and received no hassles with this request, but it's just bad form to send an opened anything out as new. That's why even the bastion of sketchy dealings, eBay, has a "new, open box" sort of designation. When I buy factory fresh, I want factory fresh.

That said, again, I'm a long time happy customer that's received some great deals and service.

I love MF online. I ordered my Hofner from there. It was set-up in Germany, then re-set up at the factory. There were both tags to prove it.

No problems with MF. Anytime there was a glitch, it was resolved immediately and they left me as a happy, satisfied customer. Same with Zzounds and Americanmusical (same company as most know by now). I always go to Americanmusical first because of their EZ pay plan, but more importantly, they ship most of their gear from NJ, which means if I put my order in early enough I'll get it the next day. The ONLY thing that's sometimes a deterrent for me with MF is that it often takes a while (up to 3 days) for my order to actually ship, and then it always has to travel across country. I don't think I've ever ordered anything and received in less than a week. I'd say 90% of the time it's longer. With Americanmusical I usually get it 1 to 2 days from when I ordered it.

I second the idea of buying local or used when possible, but have used MF in the past. One plus for me is, with a warehouse northeast of KC, I have my orders in a day or two. Also, they will match any legitimate price that anyone else has on their website and almost always have free shipping.

I'm very sorry to hear about this. It definitely should not have happened. We actually mark open box items as used level 1 items.

It sounds like you've already got the ball rolling on getting a new one, but if you want to me to make sure everything is good to go, shoot me an email with your order order or RMA number.

Joe,

Would it be possible to also get an order number from you? We should be shipping orders the same business day if placed before noon eastern, the following business day if not. It sounds like something is going wrong and I'd like to take a look into it.

forums@musiciansfriend.com is the email address.

Thanks!

I'm also a big fan of MF. Only thing of course is that they always ship from across the country for me, so everything usually takes a week to get here. Really though, that's why I usually order stuff like cables, picks, etc from them...stuff I don't need immediately. If I need something fast, I'll just go to my local shop.

Chris,

Thanks for checking into the forum and following-up with TB'ers.......nice!

Me, I use MF also and no complaints. I am eagerly awaiting a "shipped" e-mail message from your shipping department for a new Fender Pro Bassman 115 NEO cab, but the are not due until July 19th.

Thanks Chris. I'll hit you up if I have issues, but won't trouble you with it at this point. I appreciate the response and service.

Hi Chris,

Not sure I undersand? I have nothing currently on order. Just bought an Antigua Jazz however, mentioned what I said in my original post, and the sales rep assured me it would be shipped the following day. Which it was. Still got it a week later , but I don't think there's anything you can do about that.

Hi Joe,

I was concerned about where you said it was sometimes taking up to three days for your orders to ship out. I was hoping to get an order so I could look at your account and see why that may be happening, since for the most part it shouldn't be.

I have been ordering through MF for years.. No problems. Only gripe I have is it seems like 80% of what they sell is always excluded from the discount codes....

I find with MF, as long as I don't have to talk to someone, online purchasing is fine. Not one person, in my experience, that I have have spoken with was a musician. Personally, I can look up online and see what the site says, I would not call in to have someone look at the same site I am looking at to give me a wrong answer! I find local music stores not much better when it comes to knowledge of the bass (well I am a bass player). Actually I come to TB before I buy most things these days. Huge knowledge base with a bunch of opinions both positive and negative... Great to start research with

Yeah, it seems like what I want and have enough money for at the time does not get included in the sale. It's like "Noooo! " cause then it's full price.
