WHATS WITH THE DESCRIMINATION?!?

im sick of guys telling me i cant play bass just cos im a chick!! ok so decent female bassists are hard to come by ill admit, but it doesnt mean they dont exist; Kim Deal, Suzi Quatro, ring any bells?! when im gigging with my band i get so much stick for being who i am, they dont even listen to what i can do, they just see someone without a penis holding a bass and they turn off! i get people telling me im a terrible bassist before theyve even seen me hold a bass, let alone play one, yet if i was guy i wouldnt be getting this!

I know of all instruments people tend to consider bass as a guy thing above anything else, id say there are way more male bassists on this forum than female. im a girl in a guys world and ive been trying to prove myself for ages. im better than a lot of guys i know, yet they still get more respect as musicains than i do because of gender?!?

so boys, YES chicks can play bass and believe it or not YES chicks can play rock!

anyone else seriously annoyed at this? or is it just me?

You're hanging out in the wrong places. There's no descrimination. There are a lot of girls/women/ladies/females here. They add a breath of fresh air most of the time - and they keep us confused the rest of the time. Just as in life, and as it should be.

You'll find a TON of chicks who can ROCK OUT with the best of them.

Don't let them get you down. Without some of the female bassists mentioned , I probably wouldnt be the same bassist I am today. Tina Weymouth from The Talking Heads has a huge influence on me when I was starting out. Tina acually said one time that women were perfect for playing bass cause they know how to support others. I always gotta kick out of that.

You must be very unlucky, I've done dozens of gigs, many with bands with a female bass player, and have never seen any discrimination.

Carol Kaye (whatever one might think of her now) probably took 50x the static of any female bassist today, and she stayed in the game.

At the end of the day, it's all about backing up what you say you can do...Gender doesn't matter, except to small minds.

Stereo types suck! I want to hear more female players. There are more female bass players in metal bands than other genres aparently. All That Remains bassist is sick! She plays some pretty fast licks.There are many others, my friend plays bass as well, and she is pretty good. Just don't let those retards get to you go rip some lows and show them how mean chick players can be LOL

two good friends of mine who play bass happen to be female. one of them is mainly a cellist. i also have a bass lab this semester with three girls (although one had to drop due to high credit load).
