Well, with 6 and 1/2 billion or so humans on earth right now, say 1 out of 10 are or get to become a musician (including hobbyist, professional, all instruments, all...) That is 600 million musicians. Then lets say that 1 out of 1000 of those will become a bass player, or at least play bass. . . then that is 600.000 bassists.

I have no clue.

Okay, I'll bite...

About one in ten people I know play some sort of inturment. Maybe that would be more like one in twenty if you're talking world wide. Given all the different instruments there are and their popularity, I'm guessing about one in twenty musicians that I know are bass players. Maybe this is more like one in thirty world wide.

So that makes about one in six hundred or about ten million bass players world wide (that sounds a bit high when you say it out loud).

According to my sources who will remain anonymous (Nannoo Nannoo), there are 122,644,323 bassists in this world.

Of these:

1,312,492 play Double Bass or an equivalent orchestral bass instrument
2,745,981 play Electric Bass
and 118,585,850 are guitarists who can't get a gig on guitar

And if anyone would like to be included in my worldswide bass player registry, simply send me $10 US and PM me for payment details

There was a video at some point of a guy without arms playing bass with his feet. He was pretty good too, considering.

Perhaps the greater question is
"Are there any bassists on planets
Other than EARTH?"
