The website seem to be working for me. It does say "Closed for vacation until July 12th" right on the front page, so I'm guessing everyone's on vacation until July 12th.

IME, production does indeed stop when all of the employees of a business are on vacation.

You know a business is doing well when it can take 2 weeks off in the middle of summer. Some of the privately owned Restaurants do that round here.

Many manufacturing plants shut down for two weeks. They use the down time for maintenance of their machinery and tools that are in use the rest of the year.

correct. A manufacturer also can't give part of a manufacturing team a vacation. It will still shut down the line. So.....they all get vacation at the same time.

I used to work for an auto parts supplier that made frame components. We would have a paid 2 week July shutdown and paid 2 week Christmas shutdown.

The main advantage is to let the maintenance / engineering crews do critical tear down retrofits, and updates that they just cant do during production.

I like that logic. It means with all the layoff and shutdowns, our local economy must be booming!

I work at a machine shop, we are also closed this week. It's completely normal, although it's a complete pain in the ass.

So basically if you work in one of those shops you don't get to choose when you take your time off, the choice is made for you.

I would hate that. But I guess it's better than no paid vacation (or permanent vacation, i.e., no job).

Why are there so many pointless threads with the word,Rickenbacker,in the title?
They seem to alot fewer in the past couple weeks though.

That's likely due to Gibenb... er, *someone* not posting as much.

Come to think of it. Maybe "someone" was actually an employee of Rickenbacker and is on vacation for the last two weeks.

Wait...

What did I just say?
