I'm almost embarassed posting here given some of the answers I expect, but why not...

I'm not actually finished with it yet, but I have most of 2112 (all movements, not just Overture / Temples of Syrinx) by Rush worked out. Hopefully I'll finish that soon because I'm driving my family playing it over and over and over and over and over again And in some ways, me too.

FWIW, that's the song that prompted me to post my "Ever learn a song and it loses its magic" thread, also in this forum.

For me it's The Mars Volta's Cassandra Geminni. I learned almost all of it by ear and it's not so much the fact that it has complicated riffs, but the fact that it's 33 minutes long and the bass is going for about 31.5...

I'm probably about half way near perfecting YYZ by Rush, so I guess that doesn't count just yet...

Lacquerhead by Primus is pretty challenging, its not Claypool's hardest part ever, but I find dropping back in on time with the muting pattern can be really difficult...

The Real Me by The Who is also a bit of a task, as even though most of the licks aren't that difficult, its getting the phrasing and timing "Ox-like" thats near-on impossible

I've got everything but the solo for Continuum worked out myself, and I'm still working on the solo. I know the Chicken too, another tune Jaco did, but I really don't consider that very hard.

Then maybe Southbound Pachyderm by Primus. Doesn't sound all that difficult, but to do it properly you have to time the tripilets properly. First it should emphasize beat one, then after 4 measure it emphasizes beat two, then 4 more measures, beat three, etc...

I found Under Pressure pretty easy to learn.

However, that extra note throw in by that musical mastermind, Vanilla Ice, in Ice Ice Baby bedevils me like no other song song I've ever tried.

It has....... it has beaten me ....

John Cage's 4'33"

i bet there are a lot of bass players who would have a lot of trouble with that one...i hear it is really hard for guitarists, and near impossible for purcussionists

I guess YYZ by Rush. But it's not like I can play it perfectly every time or anything, as I'm sure so many people here can.

Weather Report "Havona"..
I "nearly" have the solos down...Godawlmighty that tune is breakin my heart.

Also, I'm currently being driven to a nervous breakdown trying to forget all the bad habits I've picked up over 15 years of gigging and learn the Gary Willis fingerstyle technique..(which I must say is incredible and has improved my attack and tone 100%...it's also giving my poor hands a break and warding off the RSI which I just know was bound to happen)

Agreed.

And for the record, I've been trying to learn Donna Lee.

Ahem. . . . I have been learning/relearning that, Hemispheres, and Permanent Waves for the last 20 + years. The problem is that, like a lot of people, you get burned out on it. Then you leave it for while. And you forget all of the stuff you spent hours learning. It's a neverending cycle. Hey, it isn't Vic Wooten material, but, for rock trolls like me, it's just as good!
