Whats the longest you've ever been needing a string? This is specifically for 4 or 5 string players but you're all welcome.
I'm so poor I've gone so far 4 weeks without a G string.

Keep your old ones next time you change them, that way you'l have a backup, even if it is worn. |

I used to change strings every couple months- because I could. Now, I've got a few sets of new strings that I'm just waiting until I absolutely need to change them.

| | | | I've only ONCE ever broken a string, so it's a non-issue.
However when I do change my strings I always keep a complete USED set in my gigbag.
I figure if I ever did break a string at a gig, then putting on one fresh zingy string would sound weird compared to the other worn in strings (12 month old ground-wounds - 60+ gigs, with about as many rehersals). If I broke string live i'd put on a "pre-worn" one so the sound is at least a little coinsistant.

Be glad you don't play upright, the last set of 4 I bought was $200. The cheapest I've seen (and they are awful) are still about $60. |
