People often name their instruments. clapton has "blackie" and so on. Anyone here have a nickname for your bass? and where did it come from?

my five string is called "acme" cause a guitarist in an old band put on my bass and was blown away as to how heavy it is. He said " it feels like an acme anvil with a strap!"

lets hear those names.

I get quite attached to my instruments, but I've never had the urge to name them... Seems quite a strange thing to do to an inanimate object

I'm interested to hear some of the responses/stories behind other people's naming though, maybe help me understand a bit more?

I don't buy into the whole sentimental value thing. To me it's just a piece of wood with some strings.

Naming cars has got be the dumbest thing ever, though.

Let's see... I Currently have Black Betty and Brown Sugar. In The Past there was Gidget, Spike, The Punisher, Blondie, Beth, and The Bear.

I Always name my instruments to go with there personality.
Examples:
Spike is a Black Ibanez SRX 300 with a Red Dragon Sticker. Had a great Metal Tone.
The Punisher is an OLP MM2 ( musicman copy) Heavy as sin and punished me when I wore it.
Black Betty looks like she is wearing a Black Teddy with a Red Corset, Like Betty Page.
Gidget is a Surf Green Jazz
ETC...

I have 'the fretless' and 'the Spector', which my daughter refers to as the 'the white one' and 'the pretty one', respectively. Although sometimes they are 'the Fender' and 'the red one'.

So I guess, no.
