A friend of mine describes this hi-falutin term to mean songs or sections of songs "...that reach beyond the scope of intellect, musical analysis, and even conscious thought into the realm of music that bypasses the brain and goes straight to the body, causing nerves and muscles to respond on their own."
Three examples of this I can think offhand of are:
The snare drum roll in Sly and the Family Stone's "Dance to the Music";
The sax intro to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On";
The bass intro to the Allman Brothers' "Whipping Post."
The whole horn section on Paul Simon's "Late In The Evening."
Go ahead - post your favorirtes here.

The decending string bends that end Ritchie Blackmore's solo in "Smoke on the Water"
The last note in the guitar solo of "Takin' Care of Business" which is flat (or sharp - not sure) and drives me insane because of that.
The ending harmonic "E" note George Harrison plays on the "Nowhere Man" solo.

1. The opening guitar note from 'The Supernatural' by Gary
Moore off the album Blues for Greeny. I believe he used
Peter Greens guitar for the recording.
2. The Bass on 'Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be' from the AC/DC
album If You Want Blood You Got It.
3. The 'Cocain' track off Just One Night by Clapton.
There's just too much, I'd be here for a week if I put all down. |

At the other end of the spectrum, the guitar solo on "Beyond the Realms of Death" by Judas Priest. The tone is perfect, imho, and I close my eyes and trance out on a 90 second musical journey.
