| I started playing instruments on piano at age six, moved to cello at nine, to guitar at 12, and then first got a bass at 15. I played sporadically for several years, including a grand total of one semester in college. I absolutely loved performing in rock bands, and viewed playing bass as one way to get there, but I didn't take it that seriously on its own merits. I didn't even practice unless I was in a band and had songs to learn.
I took almost ten years completely off, and got back into it in 2002 at age 35. I've taken it much more seriously since then, and bass itself is more important to me than it ever was before. I clearly view myself as a bass player first.
