Well within the Punk rock genre it's mostly the fans who are very conservative about what is and what is NOT punk.
But the punk rock musicians themselves have a rather open minded view about all of that and most old punks have no bones about giving the new guard some respect.
So I figured it to be fun to start a thread about the old punks playing songs by the new punks.
The Late great Herman Brood was like a fish in water with the punks, the whole "who cares?" attitude and the DIY quality appealed to him and when bands like The Pixies and Nirvana came along he loved to see Punk coming back again.
So here he is covering "Come as you are" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL0m_z_EXb0
Here's another icon from the original punk scene: DeeDee Ramone covering Nirvana. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAabj...layer_embedded
Joey Ramone once called Nirvana the last true Punk band.
Now I don't know if you can call David Bowie a punk rocker but let's be honest his input into the whole thing was HUGE as a producer for Lou Reed and his image was also adopted by the Damned and the New York Dolls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itiTmGq7aco
Here he is covering the Pixies "Cactus"
