When others tell you how to play your bass

Im sure this has happened to other people than just me.

Your jamming, rehearsing, recording, doing whatever with other musicians and you get asked (told) to "slap the **** out of that thing", or to play an original song like so and so would play it.

Im not a slapper, cant do it well, and don't like the sound of 80% of the slapped bass lines I hear anyway so I usually reply to the first comment with "sorry slapping isnt my thing". When I get asked to play a bass line like "insert artist here", I usually just say im not that guy, and Im playing what I hear and feel. if thats not good enough Im sorry.

FWIW I usually do give consideration to what people are suggesting, but 90% of the time what they think will work just simply will not.

Yeah, I hate that. Luckily, I don't get that too much. If they're another musician, tell them to play their guitar like so-n-so, or play their drums like so-n-so.

I think your response is probably the best way to handle the situation.
