I can keep a groove and play all of our songs pretty well, but I can't solo. So what do I do when the singer introduces the band members and comes to me? Is there a simple solo riff I can learn quickly? Or do some of you not actually do anything at all?

Of if I am feeling cheeky, an open E slap and open G pop. That wakes people up

Its opening bass and drums part of "I just want to make love to you" by Foghat and its got a pretty quick beat and I wasn't coming up with anything as far as fills. I mean I should be able to and in many songs I can but in this one I just couldn't fit something in with the beat.

What I don't like is when an "emcee type" who does not know the band or its music introduces folks during a song or jam & expects you to let it rip, If it's out of context I won't do it.Thats when the Queen's wave comes in handy. Gets you off the hook & interjects some humor into an otherwise uncomfortable situation. |

I usually play the first bass pattern for Mr. Pink by Level 42.

My favorites are the situations which lend themselves to telling the audience to go **** themselves, and right when they get off enough to storm the stage, start breathing fire then break into the next song before anyone gets attacked.
Doesn't work so well at church gigs though :/.

| | | | For me it's just staying within the groove and maybe busting a little slap and pop thing or running the melody of the music in question. It gets the quick applause and then I can get back to buisness. |

But I think the whole thing about playing a little riff when you're introduced to the audience is pretty cheesy...in a vaguely Vegas kind of way...

MM | I'm with you, I really don't want to play anything but I didn't want to appear lame as I thought most people sort of expect it.
