What do you play for them?

Something melodic? Improv? A particular song?

A bass line from something familiar, like "Sunshine of Your Love" or "Black magic Woman." If not that, probably a walking blues line.

I diddle randomly if they're not a musician. If they are a musician, I diddle in a specific key

A funky version of Stevie's left hand groove on "Superstition". That usually gets their head nodding and a smile. 'Cept i do it in E instead of D to get a bottomy open E string vibe heh-heh.

I've got sort of a "stock soundcheck riff" that I pull out, just a funky fingerstyle thing that covers a lot of bases. It's mainly pentatonic, with a little flat five here and there, and I'll throw a b3-3 slur in for that Sly Stone vibe.

That or if I'm around some of my more adventurous friends I'll throw in the Jaws theme.

I put the chorus pedal on & play the main riff for Come As You Are or the intro to Whom the Bell Tolls, I can never think of anything else that sounds half decent.

Grand Master Flash. Just kidding.

I play either the intro to "Number Of The Beast" (Maiden) or the bass solo from "Please Do Not Go" (Violent Femmes).
