When your favorite band/s lost it

This is a thread to share your experience of when you realized your favorite band/s just did not have any more what made them great or your favorite band. Since around the time of the Saint Anger tour, I have become increasingly disappointed with how sloppy Metallica performances have become. Scott Weiland's vocal performances with Stone Temple Pilots since they reunited in 2008 have been hit or miss depending on how drunk he was .

I love iron maiden & quite honestly they are the reason i am a musician today but everything after "fear of the dark" left me disappointed with the exception of "a matter of life & death".

KISS has been terrible the last few times I have seen them. I have a recording off the board from a show a couple of years ago. Paul Stanley's voice was screeching, he was flat and couldn't hit the high notes. I let a friend of mine listen to it and all he could say was "That poor B*st*rd". They should have hung it up a long time ago but as long as people are willing to pay to see them, I doubt that they will stop touring. Last year Van Halen was so bad that they cancelled the tour after a few shows.

Descendents lost it after Milo went to college.

Metallica lost it after Cliff died.

Slayer lost it after Lombardo left the first time.

Nirvana lost it when Kurt shot himself in the face.

Hot Water Music lost it after they signed w/ Epitaph.

High on Fire has yet to lose it (IMO).

I've seen Pearl Jam about a half dozen times, but the last show I went to a few years ago was pretty bad (I think it was the tour for their self-titled album). It might've just been a bad night, but Eddie's voice was starting to go and it felt like they were just going through the motions, which is really unusual for a PJ show.

Thankfully, Primus seems to be getting better and better.

Genesis - when first Peter Gabriel, then Steve Hackett left, and they went pop.
Led Zep - when Bonham died.
music in general - March 1, 1994, the day Justin Bieber was born.

And no, High on Fire has not lost it. And now that Pike is off the sauce, his liver and heart might let him stick around for a few more years.

Rush - when Peart started writing lyrics (don't hate no beef with Rush but the occasional lyrical influence by Rand is what is a total deal breaker for me)

I think U2 peaked with Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. I don't know if I would say they "lost it" after those, but all of their subsequent albums were pretty forgettable, IMO.

Miles Davis lost it after Bitches Brew.

Boston lost it after their first album, which should have been called "Boston's Greatest Hits".

Chicago went downhill after Kath accidently shot himself...

There was a time when I really liked David Foster's production style...eventually, though, I came to see it as a major cause in the demise of some of my favourite bands-
Chicago...went farther down the schmaltz trail with Foster.
The Tubes (used sessioneers over the actual band?)
Average White Band
EW&F...all casualties of Foster's production. Good sounding slick recordings...no soul, however.

Another band, Missing Persons...after the great debut album, canned enginneer/manager Ken Scott...went heavy into the Mattel-Toy electronic drum/synth route for Rhyme & Reason...never the same...band goes kaput.

I got him going a lot later...the "3rd Great Quintet" was still down-the-road...as was Jack Johnson, On The Corner, etc and the Live albums that supported those projects.

At The Drive In lost it when they became The Mars Volta and Sparta, though each of those two bands have some of "it" still.

mewithoutYou just keeps getting more and more it.

World/Inferno Friendship Society lost it when the band gradually lost all of the original members but one.

Those are three of my favorites from years past and the present.

Dude... really? Admittedly, The 2nd Law isn't a consistent album, but Supremacy, Panic Station and Survival (heck, even Unsustainable) are massive OTT face-melters, even if (with the exception of Panic Station) they aren't bass focussed. What do you expect from a guitar/singer-fronted bands with wild ambition?
