Where is the best math rock/core scene?

Just interested in this. Here in New York the rock scene seems to consist of strictly generic 'metalcore' (sorry if I sound ignorant). So what city has a good scene for technical stuff?

I think the best scene for that stuff is here in Santa Barbara. I've yet to see any play in any of the clubs here!

Have you checked out the band Zvoov? I've played with them a few times in Brooklyn, the last time was actually a math rock festival at The Cake Shop over the summer.

New york’s hottest club is Gush. Club owner Gay Dunaway has built a fantasy world that answers the question, “Nooow?” This place has everything: geeks, sherpas, a Jamaican nurse wearing a shower cap, room after room of broken mirrors, and look over there in the corner – is that Mick Jagger? No. It’s a fat kid on a slip ‘n slide. His knees look like biscuits and he’s ready to party.
