Where can i get just a cheap 4" "leather" strap?

Or fake leather, whatever. $30 + shipping for a strap is ridiculous. Any suggestions?

Or do straps usually go up to 3"?

You can't!
About all you can get in a wide strap for under $30 is neoprene strap like the Neotech from MF. Even those are almost $30.

I agree....it doesn't exist. I haven't found anything worth talking about that is over 3 inches. And, if the leather is finished properly so you can have good movement and the leather itself will not stain your clothes when you sweat, you're going to pay the price. I used to think I wouldn't pay the price for a good leather strap, but have since learned that my back, shoulder, elbow and ruined shirts make it worth paying the price.

Google Levy Straps, go to their website to review their selection and work out a deal for a discounted price at your favorite store.

Amazon runs some great deals on Levy's and other brand straps, you just have to check them out regularly because the prices can change quickly. Sometimes just certain colors are on sale where others aren't, so it's worth checking each one.

Wide + Leather = $30 minimum, sorry. I just got a pretty good one at a local Daddy's Junky Music for $34, 3" wide suede. I felt that was a good deal. You could easily go to $60 for a good one. I don't think they even had anything at a 4" width, does anyone make that? Come to think of it, I got my OTHER 3" wide strap on Amazon for about $25 - it was normally twice that, just caught it when they were clearing this particular style out.

I used to think that a strap was a stupid thing to waste money on until I realized the implications for posture and your back. These two 3" straps hold the bass position way better than the strap I was using before (in terms of neck angle).

Might want to try a tack (horse equipment) shop.
I made a strap out of a western cinch:

and a piece of leather off-billet:

It was quite comfortable and pretty unique looking..
Got a few odd looks while I was 'trying on' cinches at the tack shop though.

Maybe the odd looks had to do with trying on a "Mustang Pleasure Cinch?" That's either an exotic bedroom accessory or the name of my next band.
