When writing or improvising music, were does it all come from for you?
I have kind of a strange background for mine. About a year and a half ago I came across a song by an artist named B.J. Cole (if you ever hear pedal steel guitar on a genre outside of country its probably him) called Sanpaper Blues. After not hearing the song for a couple months I listened to it again today and realized every single note I have played since then has been inspired, influenced or directly lifted from this piece. Everything about they way I wire music, the dark, loomy, etherialness of it, even the majority of my phrasing and tone come from this five minute piece.
Maybe its not so weird, but it seems odd to me that my biggest influence as a bassist (and aspiring guitarist) is from a steel guitar player. Especially a single piece of his, it almost feels like all of my musicality is just a manifestation of this song.
But what about you? |
