| Where to find a drummer?

Perhaps my fellow TBers can help me out here. I'm in a Chicago area band and our young drummer just couldn't commit to the same level as the rest of the band. We've posted ads on Craig's, Facebook (multiple pages) and Musolist, and after five auditions we still can't find someone that's remotely dynamic. If I wanted a metronome I'd buy a drum machine.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to post to find a drummer, or any other good method of finding talent? We're going to start putting flyers in Sam Ash and GC and maybe cruise some open mics, but it seems like drummers forums don't have "Gig Oppty" sections -- which TB has! Does TB have a stepsister in the drumming community?
Any help is appreciated. Here's the ad we've been running if any of you know a Chicago area drummer that's looking: Successful Chicago area (west suburban) band is looking for an energetic drummer. We are a serious band with repeating gigs and studio time scheduled. We work at jobs we like outside of the band but we take playing seriously and really enjoy playing together. We want a drummer who is skilled and plays dynamically – someone that can impress us and the audience with how you play. We’re not just looking to have you keep the beat but also to bring the best out of your kit – not overly showy fills but some dynamic style. No metronomes please. We are an original band that also plays some covers to fill out our set list. Our original music is a soulful, bluesy mix of late 90’s alternative mixed with a touch of acoustical grunginess. Think Goo Goo Dolls meets Collective Soul with a splash of Pearl Jam and John Mayer. Please email me for information and be prepared to submit a press kit including samples. Age is not an issue – we range from 28 to 41 so don’t be afraid to reach out. |
