Where to find extra-long leather straps?

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure which forum this belongs in.

I'm 6' 3". I wear my bass at hip-level. I'd like a 3" wide (or so) leather strap that will do approximately 66" in length. I've combed the usual online retailers, to no avail.

Alternately - someone used to sell extra-long "tails" for existing leather straps. Can't find them either, but if I could, they'd make a couple of the leather straps I have laying around more useful.

Suggestions?

I have the same issue (I'm 6'6" and fat) and I can't get the angle I want out of mine and it has a tail on it just not nearly long enough. I wanna rock my bass at hip level at a 45~degree angle. Need MINIMUM 66".

You might try contacting Jodi Head Guitar Wear NYC. Their website is www.jodihead.com. I never bought anything from them before, but members of other forums have used them with good results. If they can't make what you need, they might know who can.

In your situation, I'd look to have one made. Straps are not complicated and any good leather craftsman can make what you want. Case in point. I wanted a pouch for my X2 transmitter, but didn't like what was commercially available and wanted it in leather. I went to Tandy Leather and asked them for local leather craftsman. Gave me a couple names, I found a local one, he made me exactly what I wanted. Good luck.

My wife and I are leather crafters. We could probably do it for cost of materials + shipping. If you already have a strap that you own that does not fit, we could change out the leather for longer pieces and save you the cost of new findings.

Here is a link to a project we completed for a friend, It's a replica 14th century water hardened arm harness for a re-enactor. This amount of carving would cost considerably more.

Answer: Planet Waves. I got a super-long one (3", plain black leather) from a local shop.

At least I think it's PW. It has a PW tag on it.
