Where were you and what were you doing when you got the news. Unfortunately, today is the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's murder. It's a day/night I'll never forget.

I was playing in the 1st of a 3 band show at the Fountain Casino in NJ. It was my Southern Rock cover band, Zebra, & Twisted Sister. We had done our set and were listening to Zebra, when all of a sudden the PA went silent and the club DJ came over the house system and announced the news report. The show did go on, but there was a strange eery mood the rest of the night. Nobody enjoyed themselves after that. It still sends chills up my spine when I think about it.

I was 9 years old and living in the UK at the time (Leeds).

I didn't know who John Lennon was at the time, but I felt the weirdest vibe in the air. The radio stations were playing Instant Karma NONSTOP.

In school, the british kids couldn't believe I didn't know who John Lennon was. Well, the two or three who gave others a hard time for anything. Hey, I was 9 and from Brazil, what did they expect?

You may be right. They were just talking about it on the Stern show, today being the anniversary. I think Dimebag's was last year on the 8th. I'll still rmember what/where I was when I heard of it though. What a waste, on both accounts.

Lennon's murder was 25 years ago this Thursday, December 8th.
I was in eighth grade. My homeroom teacher was a real cool guy, a former biker and big rock-n-roll fan, and I remember him being shellshocked when he walked in the morning after the shooting.

I was enjoying my vacation time after successfully finishing my 8th grade. A big picture of John Lennon appeared in all the newspapers. I knew the Beatles because one of my uncles had a copy of the American version of "A Hard Day's Night" and I loved that record when I was a kid, but that was my only knowledge about The Beatles at the time, aside from a Spanish-sung version of "Yellow Submarine" and the recent McCartney hit "Coming Up" from "McCartney II" (BTW, that tune really made me jump from my seat every time I heard it and still like it. I don't know why it seems to be so obscure nowadays). John Lennon's death coverage was what got me really interested on The Beatles. My first purchases were the "1962-1966" and "1967-1970" compilations and after that I became a true Beatles fan.

It's December 8.

I was at home watching Monday Night Football on TV when Howard Cosell started mentioning something about "an unspeakable tragedy." Knowing his flair for the dramatic I wondered, "oh, what is it, Howard? Toupée World is closing?" Then he said that John Lennon was shot in front of his New York apartment and was dead on arrival at the hospital. I was incredibly saddened and dumbstruck at that news. Why? Who the hell would kill John Lennon, I wondered?

I was just wondering, on the official John Lennon site, it says that he was murdered on the 8th, not the 5th. Either or, he should be commemorated, because he was such an amazing musician.

I was a junior in high school. I wasn't much of a Beatles fan back then, but if you had told me that Geddy Lee died under similar circumstances I would have cried like a baby.
