I would say Tupac, I work with people who like rap and they are always talking about Tupac's newest album.

Do you mean albums of new material released posthumously? If so, then Jimi Hendrix springs to mind...

Tupac wins, big time.... I think he has realeased more "new" material since his death than when he was living... I think we have to look at this with regards to "new" recordings and or realeases... Biggy Smalls comes in a close second, ever heard their post-mortam dute?.. What a freaking joke...

Alex

ps. brings a tear to me eye, the notion that is...

Yes that is what I mean. This should be quantifiable somehow...but how?

John Lennon is up there, I think.

Sex Pistols have a whole lot of Live albums.

Would posthumous mean death? Does breaking up count?

King Crimson, definitely. They've died and been reincarnated so many times, and there's tons of releases from the "dead" lineups. I believe there's over 100 CDs in their catalog.

Somehow I bet he's not getting as much of it as you think. I suspect the money is mostly going to people who have MBA's and lawyers.

Didn't Mike Jeffries die, though?

I have no problem with the Hendrix family making a little bread. They had to fight for years to get the rights back to his material.

Honestly, I haven't seen anything come out under the Hendrix Family imprint that besmirches Jimi's name in any way.

And, you might find it interesting to know that they won't allow any of Jimi's music to be used for movies that promote drug use. So, they aren't all about the money.

There are plenty of examples of the living feeding off of the talented dead. Personally, I don't think Hendrix falls into this category.

Hendrix. Jimi has put out more records dead than alive.

I'd think it be more like someone along the lines of Beethoven or Mozart.

If live albums count, then the Grateful Dead are catching up, and ultimately will probably surpass anyone - the Dick's Picks series is up to volume 30, and they've got reams of tapes in the vault...
