Nice. Thanks for the links.
Takes me back to my youth, when I first heard this:
Black Sabbath - Fluff - YouTube
and
Black Sabbath-Laguna Sunrise (1972) - YouTube

yeah they played at my university and on a whim i went to see them. LOUD. but not in a painful way, just super deep bass. a wonderful hour of swimming in sound. unfortunately most of the audience had walked out by the end of the show. presumably to go listen to dubstep and kei$ha.

Even though this is a thread for 'this will destroy you', I figured I'd post this. Very similar, very good group as well.

It's called post-rock, Tommy. Pretty popular subgenre nowadays. This Will Destroy You and Explosions in the Sky are now some of the biggest names in the genre as well.

Check out:
The Album Leaf
God Is an Astronaut
Mogwai
Red Sparrowes
Do Make Say Think
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

I figured that out quickly after I made the post about Explosions in the Sky.

Its certainly not popular with anybody of my age group! Must be more like people born last 80s-early 90s cause my older brother and his friends also introduced me to God is an Astronaut/ and I also found out This Will Destroy You from a friend's older sister.
