I am looking to purchase or either build an electronic drum set, already have the module (Alesis DM5).
Who sells an entry level set that would be usable with this brain?
Thanks!

'Course it usually costs more than buying a complete kit together. However, there's one online store ( www.drumbalaya.com ) that will put together whatever custom kit you want, brain or no brain. Call or email them and they can also tell you which sets are compatible with the Alesis brain. |

I did look at Alesis' Web site but they either sell the kit with module, or just the module but no kit with no module.
What's up with that hey?
I may visit the pawns.

Over here in Europe we have Chinese entry level e-drums in sets as well as individual pieces. Millenium and Fame are just two of the "brands" but the similarities are striking to say the least .
It's hard to imagine that there's nothing similar in Your US on-line stores.
Here's an example of the kit without a module: http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_mps300_edrumset.htm
And an example of a tom/snare pad: http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_mps300_edrum_pad.htm

Using a Remo practice pad and a cheap piezo element you can get at Radio Shack, you can build a trigger. Basically anything that can hold a piezo can be made into a trigger. I made a trigger using a piezo and a PVC pipe. Do a Google on "DIY E Drums" or similar, and you can find many ways to do this. |

Some people modified rock band drum pads as well.

Thanks! | I'm not sure you'd consider them entry level, but I've been using Pintech drums with a DM5 for about ten years. I also tried a few piezo DIY pads, they worked OK with the DM5 but I gave up on that route once I had the Pintechs.

They have documentation on how to set up the most popular drum "brains" with their kits.
