Who remembers Lafayette, or The Birth of GAS!

Found this by accident and realized that this is where it all started for me. Before I played anything I drooooooled over these guitars. Studied them. Dreamed about them. Memorized every word. But my parents wouldn't buy me one. Not even the cheaper one. And they were completely out of reach. Now that I earn my own money I can buy whatever I want!!!
And I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow. Check it out http://www.bunkerofdoom.com/lit/la71...e_7130042.html

could be they did you a favor......some of the early instruments i've seen were unplayable, and probably discouraged more budding young players than they inspired

Ha! That's exactly what wound up happening to me. I originally wanted to play bass. A friend left his bass over my house, maybe even one of these, and it was ridiculously hard to play. I still remember trying and trying with the strings being like 2" off the neck. My brother's friends however were leaving their SGs and Strats in my basement so I wound up playing with those things all the time until I saved enough to buy my own guitar. Took about 10 years to decide that bass was my calling.

Just want to add an interesting name dropping note. Those instruments that were getting left in my basement were from my older brothers first band who had both James Lomenzo in it and Steve Augeri (who wound up singing with Journey). Those guys were my first influences, playing in my basement. Band's name was Sir Donicus.

my house was the hangout, and a nice new ebo was what the guys left.....when i got my first bass it was a hofner beatle for $150,or so and traded it later for a 69 precision.....i just remember all the hagstroms and clones looking cheap, even tho' they had more buttons and knobs than the space shuttle
