who wants to help me with some ideas to "pimp" my bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive been think of some ways just to make my bass look a little more attractive. It has black paint, rosewood fingerboard, and a red pearl pickguard, and a gold Badass II bridge. (fender MIM deluxe active jazz IV)

the first step i think is to replace the gold BAII with a silver or chrome one(i actually got the gold one for bout 30 bucks fugured i could sell it and get a profit), then a different color pickguard. I was think either white pearloid(or plain white), or a black perloid(maybe plain black also). I would like to maybe add a geddy lee maple neck in the future. different tuners? if i keep the gold BAII, i will probably get gold tuners, if i get a black pickguard, maybe black tuners will look cool.

what do you guys think will look the coolest? do you think you could post some pics of your black basses with different color pickguards, so i can see for myself whats more appeasing? thanks, scott

Cover up the gold BAII with an "ashtray" bridge cover. Perloid pick guard and P bass knobs.

Paint the entire thing green, get gold hardware and hang some fuzzy dice from the headstock.

Green for the money, gold for the honey.

but seriously, i'd go with a black gaurd and black hardware

Get the crome BAII. Get a neck pickup cover.

I like the sound of that.

Don't do it!!! Save yourself!

Okay. That probably came off a little wierd. I'll explain.

Back in the '80's I got a great Schecter Jazz. It felt great, sounded great, looked great. It was an awesome bass in many ways. Then after having it for several years I saw a video clip of one of our gigs and discovered that an all black bass could be a problem.

I was wearing black shoes, black pants, a black blazer (with the sleeves pushed up, This was the '80's, after all.) over a somewhat bright blue shirt, playing a black bass, with black hardware and an ebony fretboard. And I was playing this bass in front of a dark wall.

On the videotape, I wasn't really visible. I was sort of a floating disembodied head and hands. Since then I have only bought basses that are visible from the back row in a moderately dark club.

Good luck getting more than $30 for a used gold bridge.

I don't think a Badass II won't fit under a Jazz bridge cover. I would get a Gotoh, or something more similar to a standard Fender bridge.

I'm a big fan of Jazz Basses with both covers on, even if it doesn't leave many different places to play. Granted, I think flats with a pick at the base of the neck is the best tone a Jazz Bass can achieve, so that's not necessarily a bad thing...

don't bother with all that stuff... just go to the store and get some white dot stickers... put those all over your bass and it will be PIMP'd OUT! Ok.. well, maybe...

I think someone put an Ashtray on a Geddy Lee. I think it would fit uner the uber huge "F" one but not the smaller ones that came on Pbasses.

Yeah, that's what somebody said recently in another Talkbass thread. Somebody had suggested trying a 5 string bridge cover over a BAII and somebody else posted saying that they had been able to get a big 4 string bridge cover to fit over the BAII.
