The Who will perform at Super Bowl XLIV 2-7-10

Sign in to disble this ad
CBS has announced that The Who will be performing at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV February 7, 2010 in Miami. The Who has a strong CBS connection with three of their most well-known songs being used as intros for the network's three CSI shows: "Who Are You" (CSI), "Baba O'Riley" (CSI NY) and "Won't Get Fooled Again" (CSI Miami).

The British rockers are comprised of only two original members, vocalist Roger Daltrey and songwriter/guitarist Pete Townshend, with original drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle passed away. Recent performers for the National Football League's championship game have included Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Paul McCartney, U2, The Rolling Stones, Prince and Bruce Springsteen.

Townshend announced on his blog on August 26, 2009 that he was working on a new musical project called , FLOSS, to be staged in 2011 and that some of the songs from that project would be included on a new album to be released in 2010.

This was posted a couple weeks ago but is still good news. Definitely a Super Bowl I'm looking forward to.

I'm looking forward to it. Are they touring too? Do we know the bassist?

Son-of-a-gun!

The wife and I saw Roger Daltrey last week at Chrysler Hall / Norfolk on his "Use It Or Lose It" tour. Great show, piss-poor turnout IMO. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Pete Townshend's son, Simon, was covering the guitar work.

That's a big disappointment, but after TP last year anything is possible with these network dweebs. The Who isn't half the band they use to be!

I personally think Pino Palladino and Zak Starkey are more than good replacements for Entwistle and Moon. I mean, obviously they'l never be the same, but it's still great to listen to and watch IMO>

I saw Daltrey and Townshend when they toured this time last year as The Who. It was an absolute blast and they killed it! The only problem.. the bassist was no Entwistle "period". This Super Bowl half time is going to be a good one.

I agree. They need a different bassist. Pino is a great bassist for some things, just not as a replacement for John Entwistle. (not that there ever can be, really) But they need someone who plays more like John did. There's just no spark like there used to be.

They just need a rhythm section. Maybe they can get together with Paul and Ringo....I believe they're looking for a gig.

^^ Now THAT would be a band I'd pay a lot to see!

I wish I could believe for one second that their egos would allow that to happen.

that's NOT the Who. That's 2 guys who USED TO BE in the who. For some reason Pete & Roger, to me, have become shallow versions of their former selves. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it's very sad for me to see these guys now. I really get the thought that maybe it's time for them to hang it up. But then again, that's just me.

Pete Townsend seven says he's playing in a Who tribute band with himself and Roger Daltrey.

Exactly - they're old and should give it up. They must have had terrible managers and financial planners in their day to have to still play to make a living.

It's about time for the "Retro Wave" to die. I definitely don't have any interest in seeing these two has beens on national TV and can't believe all the network hype their getting.

For some reason? Here's one: They are both in their mid 60's!
