i don't know i thought it might be tom hanks simply because he is one of those mature actors who can handle a role as complex as playing the character of jaco pastorius. but i can also see johnny depp performing the role and doing a good job.... so yeah...

Jimmy Smitts... with long hair he would be a very good Jaco. A bit tall but he would ceratinly "look" like jaco.

I agree with Johnny Depp too. He is the right size and can pull off the hair and look.

Definately NOT Tom Hanks.

Definitely Depp and he has been expressed some interest in it. I really think he's the only "known" actor that could do it justice.

is that a "what if" question or is a cinematic version of Jaco's biography is actually planned?

Jaco's first album came out when he was about 25, and he died at age 35. So it doesn't make sense to me to cast a 40-something (Depp) or certainly not a 50-something (Hanks). Gotta go young, maybe Adrian Grenier (i.e. Vince Chase from Entourage)? Or James Franco (the young rich guy from the Spiderman movies)? Or Jonathan Rhys Meyers (uh, google him).

Actually Willam Dafoe might be good for his drugged-out period.

P.S. Tom Hanks would suXorz.

I like the way you think.

OTOH, Bruce Willis would be cool - at the end of the movie, he could kick the snots out of that bloody night club bouncer to allow for a sequel. Play Hard 2...
