Sign in to disble this ad
All I can really say is...

I AM IRON MAN! BOOOOOOOW BOWWWWW! Der der der de der! wowowowo dah der ner ner!!!

No new age band, not even Opeth (my favourite band), has ever made me feel the bone crushing metal fury of metal like they have.

So, tell me, what is it about Black Sabbath that makes your loins explode with fire from the pits of hell itself?

The secret is getting your guitar player to only use 2 fingers.

That's because they're so metal they had to scale it back.

One time, on stage, Tony accidentally used his third finger, it just slipped. Anyone who was in the immediate vicinity instantly died of starvation.

Its sort of like primal instincts.

Sabbath was the beginning of Metal, so therefore they are more primal, more core to the central being of Metal. A savageness that talks to the inner primordial creature inside all of us.

Refined and evolved metal may sound great and intricate, it may be more advanced, but there's something brutal about primal beginnings. Its like new stuff today is the precision and accuracy of a sniper rifle from miles away... Black Sabbath is a 30 pound boulder, its heavy, its messy, you have to be up close and in their face to smash their brains in. Its raw.

Into the Void FOREVER!!!!!!

Pretty obvious actually.

Icicles within their brains
Something blowing in their heads
Winter's ice, it soon will spread
Death would freeze their very souls
Makes them happy, makes them cold

"I AM IRON MAN! BOOOOOOOW BOWWWWW! Der der der de der! wowowowo dah der ner ner!!!" Lol- cool.

For me, they're the first Metal I heard. And as with many firsts in life, nothing else will ever quite measure up.

Black Sabbath usually makes me laugh ... they take themselves sooo seriously ... it is really funny.

Iron man is one of the funniest songs ever!

one thing I have to say is they seem to have invented groove metal too,... I mean think of all the awesome stuff like electric funeral, faeries wear boots, etc

I played electric funeral to a mate once and it got stuck in his head for 3 days, must have been their primal awesomeness!

Hi.

No matter what, Black Sabbath is THE band that all metal is eventually compared with.

Were they the first?
No, but they were the first to have any success with the "genre".

The melodies however are so ingenious at times (like the above mentioned examples), that sometimes it seems hard to believe that all the tunes really came from the same group of intoxicated people .

Regards
Sam

They do? I had no idea that was even possible if you have a front person as goofy as Ozzy.

I used to dismiss them because I only knew "Paranoid" which didn't really tickle my fancy, but when I saw some pretty recent live footage, I was shocked how good their slower songs are and how much groove they have. I also got the feeling Bill Ward has to be their secret weapon because he seems to be responsible for how a lot of their songs flow and breathe.

In my opinion, Black Sabbath is the best band to ever exist. No band can make you feel every emotion the way that Black Sabbath does. Under the Sun off of Volume 4 is definitely one of the heaviest songs written.

People hear Paranoid and Iron Man by Black Sabbath and they think thats all there is to it. Black Sabbath has a lot more to offer than just that. I would suggest the CD Sabbath Bloody Sabbath to anybody that doesn't have it. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is one of the heaviest songs ever, followed by A National Acrobat which is very mellow and smooth.

The first four records are no less than Gospel for the genre.

And Bill Ward was definitely a big part of that:

Is it true that Geezer uses C-Tuning... I want to play some songs on my Ric, and my heart sank when I saw that they were tabbed in C... I don't want to detune....
