Sign in to disble this ad
Not only lasts beyond 5 to 10 years , due to the materials, besides the metal and solid plastics, that eventually become brittle and disintegrate, but also, does not damage guitar and bass finishes.
I must have about 4 guitar stands were all the metal frameing is perfect.
But ,the rubber like material that cradles the instrument and is wrapped around the stand frames, has just wasted away.
Wasted not due to neglect, but from time itself.
And, I am talking about a short time over several years.
I bet a lot of musicians would be willing to spend a few extra dollars for a stand that last a lifetime.
Couldn't some other material be used besides the cheap stuff that is being used now.
How about some kind of soft, tough, elastizied denim ?
Or something else ?
There has to be a better way............. |

I like the Ultimate stands a little better. Their "Genesis" ones which mostly suspend the guitar by the headstock are ok. I really like their "Axcel" stands, they easily fold flat, plus they automatically lock at the neck. Unfortunately it seems like they've stopped making them, but there are a few places that still sell them.

It looks like a tweed guitar case, but when it's open, it holds 7 guitars or basses. They also make one that looks like a briefcase that holds 3. I've had mine for 7 years and it's in perfect shape - I expect it to last at least 10 more, if not longer. They're pricey, but well-built.

Simple, inexpensive, sturdy and inconspicuous. And, they fold flat.
If you like to hang the bass from its headstock, it ain't for you. But after 20+ years of disintegrating rubber, lost supports and rusty chrome, I got tired of the conventional stands.

If you're just looking for something around the home, the wall mounted stands would be a good choice, because if your wall falls down, chances are your bass isn't your biggest problem.

My wetsuits last a couple of years, and that's way more abuse any stand should ever see , and its soft...

This is the absolutely, no holds barred, best guitar/bass stand on the market. http://www.hamiltonstands.com/guitar/kb38.htm
It's been around for years, but they don't really advertise and most of the "box houses" don't carry them. They are reasonably priced, fold compactly and are without a doubt the most stable stand I have ever encountered (that's a lot, folks). As a yuk and for dramatic effect...I ask other guitar players to just try and knock it over...it's insane! Not going anywhere!
I simply cannot say enough good things about this stand. I only have one (had it for over a decade)...and I'm not connected in anyway to Hamilton (sure, I used their stands when I was in band back in the '50s...)...It's my "serious" stand. The others work...but this one I trust- with anything.

Those suitcase style stands look nice, no rubber, plastic, urethane stuff there ,but they are large, and I really just would like a single holder.
And yes, it would be great if somebody even had some kind of finish freindly, rubberized replacement tubeing, available for sale.
Thanks for all the input so far guys.
Please keep brainstorming...................
Oh, I should mention that I have seen some photos of wood guitar stands also.
Taylor makes some, but I prefer another alternative. |

I'd recommend making a sleeve out of several layers of thick cotton cloth to resurface any missing padding if you have nitro finished instruments. If you've got poly though, I don't know of too much that will hurt them that doesn't originate from a drummer.

My oldest one is about 3-4 years now, but still hanging in there great. And I don't treat any of my gear all that carefully (except for my basses ) .... I gig a lot and stuff just gets tossed around .... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
