Question Why did you start playing?

Sign in to disble this ad
(This is for why did you started playing guitar or bass)

Well... I started with the bass, cos i've always liked music, but guitar is really complicated, and I said "Playing bass is easier". And then, after I started playing bass, I also learned guitar. The reason I started playing guitar is cos I also sing a lot, and 1 day, the girl that I liked asked me to sing to her, so I started singing, and I played bass for the background music (don't try this yourself, it doesn't sound good at all). And after my big singing-playing bass failure, I decided that for singing, it was better a guitar, but I play more bass anyway :3

What's your story?

PS: I still don't have a bass of my own. I had to learn with the last 4 strings of the guitar. I've only played the one of my friend and the ones I can borrow in stores. Ill buy one soon

.M

After getting a Strat at 15, I just gravitated towards playing basslines on it.
Bummed me out, because I immediately needed to start scheming for a bass, after finally getting an electric guitar.
Parents were not understanding.

my friends started playing guitar around Jan. 08. I wanted to be a drummer but they insisted i play bass because it would be harder to find a bassist than a drummer. (And we ended up just having to convince another friend who started playing guitar.) I agreed, even tho i really didn't know wat bass was

Cause my brother had one and i always find it quite easy to play!
Its the only thing i can do well and im lucky its relatively easy for me.
I do love it to though, although i love the bass as an object almost as much as playing or listening to it!

When I was 14, I got heavily into Incubus and Primus. Dirk Lance's slapping really caught my ear. I picked up a Mel Bay bass book and started practicing on my dad's stratocaster before borrowing a Peavey Foundation bass from a neighbor. I got a P-bass copy for the following Christmas.

It's funny because even though Dirk Lance and Les Claypool made me want to play the bass, I never learned to play any of their lines. I don't even slap.

Les Claypool made me want to play too. But now I try to keep it in the pocket instead of slapping fast

I started on DB, ages ago, have no clue why, just on a whim really, then gave that up when I wanted to focus more on my school work, shortly after got myself an Electric bass, my only regret is not keeping my upright..

I was playing alto sax in the school band and I hated it at the time. There was a guy in our band who played electric bass and he always looked like the coolest mofo out there, not nearly as "nerdy" as the rest of us. So my grandfather gave me 200$ for xmas that year and I got my first bass, a white squire p bass in feb of 2000. I played the hell out of that bass, wish I still had it. Good times indeed.

Been a guitar player since '68. The reggae/dub thing has got me really digging the 'one drop' stylee of bass and so I just got my first real bass, a Hohner B2B with flatwounds, and i'm hooked on the rumble. Yes, I, rastafari !

Yeah, I know. I've seen plenty of kids fall into that trap. I just knew that when I started, I wanted to do it the right way. That led me to play bass for a good 3 years before even considering putting a band together, which turned out to be a very good idea.

I've been a drummer for 20+ years, but my current job/living situation doesn't really make it easy for me to practice/transport my tubs. I've also played guitar on and off since I was a kid. About a year ago someone I used to play with needed a bass player..I figured why not? I haven't looked back since, I almost feel guilty, I look at my drums like I'm neglecting them...

I've been playing music since I was about 4. I started on piano, then added violin, clarinet, and saxophone. I played orchestral and classical stuff at school and enjoyed it, although I never really connected with it.

When I was about 13, a family friend got my dad's dusty classical guitar from the '70s out of the attic and showed me and my brother how to play the intros to "One," "Enter Sandman," and "Wherever I May Roam" by Metallica. I was hooked, took up classical guitar, and eventually bought an electric and a bass as well.

As time went on, I got more interested in bass, owing mostly to the fact that my brother worked at a guitar store and gave me a GREAT deal on my first bass, a used MIA Fender Jazz V, and now, 10 years later, I consider it my primary instrument.

My first band was in the late 60's, and I started out playing guitar. Our bassist couldn't do runs, scales, or walks and I was the one who kept teaching him. After too many attempts, the bass role got handed to me, and I have been at it ever since.
