Why do people buy "road worn" style insturments?

I'm not talking about an old classic, I'm talking about brand new guitars/basses that are made to look like they have been through the wringer.

It's like hipsters who buy jeans with holes already in the knees.

*** is the appeal? I don't get it

It's not my thing either, but if someone else likes it, who cares?

I dunno man, why do people create threads that have already been made 30 times before?

People are strange animals. Deal.

Not forum police, I just don't understand the reason for this thread.

You didn't create this thread because you wanted a real answer.

In all fairness I played a roadworn 50's jazz and really liked the feel.....kind of a 'broken in' vibe.

It's not an esoteric concept, friend. I started a thread with the hope that someone would come in and explain why people buy these atrocities.

And 31st time? Link me to a thread like this one made in the last few years.

Relax Fellas. Just something to talk about if you want to.

Those MIM Fender Road Worn basses are pretty sweet. I'd own one i Guess. I plan on keeping my new Ric pretty mint but I'm sure Mojo will happen.

Why do people go to KFC and not Popeye's when fried chicken tastes like cantaloupe juice?

Because they play well and sound good...

Notice no comment in cosmetics, could it be that those that have purchased the RoadWorn series bass care less about the look of a bass, than those who purchase a shiny new one, probably not, but just a thought....

I don't currently own one but have in the past, they are a nice bass.

Some people like them. Others don't. Not much more can be said. All a matter of preference.

Atrocities. Yes- yes, of course. I give this thread 3 more pages.
On topic- OP, why not confront an owner and make it personal? It's very easy/safe to sling mud at someone else's taste on le innernet...

Roadworn basses are not my thing either. To me its like trying to fool people into thinking that you have some vintage piece of gear that you wish you had but can't afford. There are many people who like them and don't like new looking basses either. Companies make them because there is a market for them.

I kinda like the road worn SRV model strats... (play guitar too..) The reason??? Just cuz... I know it would never get me to play like SRV.. I certainly wouldn't expect that..

i think people who think the allure is is superficial should play one. they are more playable, IME! kinda like broken in work boots & blue jeans. personally, the first relic'd bass i tried was pushed on me because a friend thought is was the best feeling bass he had ever played in decades. i looked at it and was like, meh... ah okay, give it here.

now, i crave these instruments like crazy!!! hell, i even sanded the finish off of a brand new Fender Jazz just to rid my hand of that sticky lacquer!

i actually play better & faster as a result, YMMV.
