The re-appearence of the Lil' Wayne thread has gotten me wondering: Why do some people deem it necessary to sip on the Haterade when it comes to rap and hip-hop? There's manufactured music everywhere, so why pick Rap and Hip-Hop? Seriously, why? And are these the same people who get all panties-in-a-twiste when it comes to Pete Wentz and the NSync of the emo set? Some one please answer this for me?

I don't want to hear it at all and I hear it everywhere, which just leads me to disliking it even more. |

I like hip-hop/rap, country, and polka. I haven't gotten into emo yet, but I'm not really trying hard enough.
to the question: Because it wasn't around/they didn't listen to it when they were in high school. People's music tastes are influenced mostly by what they listened to in high school. Now, I like and listen to almost every genre of music, so I don't really understand why someone would dislike an entire genre for one reason or another. I find generalizing a genre of music doesn't do much good. |

I just find it mindless and directionless. |

I don't care much for country either but i dont hear it everywhere i go and atleast the music changes in the background more than rap when im forced to listen to country. Techno, manufactured music yes, but this is revolved the around the music. the music is going to do more different things and keep me entertained. ive heard rap and tapped along with the beat in the background but it gets old. just like in techno but techno tends to change whereas rap is more of a lyric focal kind of music which tends to cause the music in the background to be the same pretty much all the way through. granted, some of the time it works great but they could atleast change the dynamics a little. like in the song Move. same riff the whole way through. but at some points, it's just hit the note, stop. very abrupt. but the later its hold the note out. it's the same sound but it changes due to dynamics. and some pauses at the end of the riff. the point is, if rap has to play the same thing the whole time, atleast make the same thing sound a little different without changing the notes. it would keep people more people interested.
I respect rappers as musicians so long as the love the music. I just personally dont like the genre of rap.
Edit: and i dont like emo music because they vocalists sound like they're crying the lyrics in too girly of voices for me and the lyrics are...well, emo.

I hate on "popular" rap/hip hop, but I do like some. I have a few gigs of it on my computer/ipod.

Sometimes it is quite good though, but that seems to be the exception to the rule.

thats not saying in any way that all rap is bad. what's behind the scenes can be very good. but as far as the mainstream picture of rap goes, i don't think there's any mystery as to why the public hates it.

At least with country chances are the artist may have actually written the music. Rap is just talking with style and IMO takes little musical talent or ability. When you add all the thugery BS... ugh, its just not for me.

great bass
great lyrics
great vocalist
most rap doesnt meet these requirements. however, there are some great groups out there like Public Enemy and Jurassic 5. then again, when applying the checklist i suppose the outcome ratio is roughly the same for all genres.
