Why do you like your bass?

Hi Everybody,

I don't know if this thread has been on here, I couldn't find it. Why do you like your bass? Is it the looks, sound, color, price or a combination.

i like it cuz it has sentimental value to me. Kinda like all the toys i had when i was a kid i can never part with them, guess im just kinda soft, polly too soft. Idk, besides that fender jazz has a great tone and versatility. plus i got it when i graduated from high school, hated that place, reminds me how i made it thru that hel.l hole

First and foremost, comfort ... weight, neck profile, etc. If it's not comfortable to play, it's hard to execute well and that can't be changed with different pickups or tone pots.

Then theres the intangible ... you pick up a bass and right off the bat, you just know "this is it." Actually, that's not an intangible. That's still comfort! lol

Because the keepers all said "Hi, honey, I'm home!!" when I played one unamplified note on them.

Which one?

A couple for sentimental reasons, a couple because of how they play, a couple because of how they sound -- and most of them for all these reasons. Looks are secondary, but I do have matching J and P basses, so I guess I gave some thought to it . . .

It's got great feel to the neck, it's got great electronics, it's light and easy to play, the B string is tight, and it looks so darn sexy. Plus, it was built just for me.

My three basses...

My Lakland 4-94: I *love* how it plays. Best 4 string I've ever owned, as far as playing. Soundwise, it's close to perfect - Sometimes the Barts don't sound as crisp as I might like, but they *do* sound very rich & warm -- so it's a bit of a trade off, right? You can't have *everything*....

Appearance? Dull. Black body, maple neck. I'd MUCH prefer pretty wood, but I figure that a plain black body has an advantage: If I ding it, it won't break my heart like say a piece of spalted maple would...

So that's why I love my primary bass. My Zon 5 is great for everything but slap (string spacing is crazy narrow) and my Clement 5 is nice but I think isn't quite what I want...
