I'll tell you why I don't. I keep reading that you burn a batter or more per gig. If this is true, once it's more reasonable I'd love to have a wireless setup.

I wander .... not so much the big stage issue, but I do all of the gig-time sound checking and I'm in the crowd at times when we're playing. I also do all of the arrangements for the band so at times I need to talk to the other players. Just easier than having a cable tying me down ...

edit: Yup, burn a battery a night .... I'm using a Sennheiser D1000

Because part of my job with my band is checking the sound while we're playing. So, having a cord doesn't really work too well.

I'm using a Shure SLX series wireless, which uses AA batteries in the transmitter. I can pull two gigs out of a pair of batteries.

Have you tried any of the rechargables? I use the Energizers (silver with neon green on labels) rated at 2500mAh. They have newer, stronger ones... I bet those would be teh shiz. But they usually last me at least 1.5x what alkalines do per charge.

Most of our stages are pretty big, I like to wander, and I tend to get nutty, jump around, etc. I've been known to tangle myself in my cable back when I was attached to my rig via an umbilical cord.

Now I use a Sennheiser EW 127 G2. I love it. It sounds great, is a clean rack-mount unit, and usually gets 2-3 shows out of two AA batteries.

To me it's like being unleashed....plus I've been known to walk around the crowd on a song like Radar Love.

Hate cords.
Wireless allows one to go pretty much anywhere WITHOUT having to trace your steps back the same way, freedom of movement.
Examples:

Go behind drummer to guitar side of stage and then cross back in front of the drummer).

Go into the audience area during soundchecks at any room/venue.

Chase down the waitress who keeps missing you to beg for more water.

etc., etc. etc.

It's a question of mobility. On big stages I don't wanna be chained next to my amp, and on small stages it's better to have the freedom to weave in and out wherever you wish without having to worry about snagging a cable and unplugging yourself.

I also help with sound checks, so it's good to be able to go to the back of the room and still play while yer listening to what the band sounds like.

I like to wander and it helps check the sound out front.

Plus there is no cable to trip over. The first time I used a wireless (at practice, I always test things before a gig) I kept reaching down to flick the cable out of the way and there was nothing there

Exactly. I end up being the sound check/balance guy, and a wireless is perfect for doing that. Lets you step off the stage, run around and check the mix while playing.

Two reasons that i can think of.
As im the only one in the band with one i tend to go out front at sound check and balance the mix off stage (no PA support, just a vocal PA)
Second is that our singer/guitarist has his amp the other side of mine and stand the opposite side to that, centre stage and so his leads cross my path. He tends to not look at whats going on and gets tangled up in mine. Having the wireless its not a problem any more.
We actually play on small stages more than big ones and it also helps keep the floor clear.

Using AKG WMS400Pro with one band, AKG GB for the other. Same reasons for both.

i like to dance, bang and run on the stage, cables are (sad but true) useless for me.
I use the AKG WMS 400 pro, and no, I dont use a batt each show, one (1) AA Batterie last for about 10 shows, incredible, but true!

I used to have a wireless, but I don't use one any more. I think I had 100' range or something with it, and I spend pretty much all my time within 10ft of the drum riser. I have a 20' cable and I don't use all of that.

No real reason as to why I don't use one, I just don't need one.

I too use the AKG WMS and it is real good on battery consumption, especially if you're careful to turn it off on breaks, etc.

I use it for most of the same reasons being posted. Helping with soundchecking, cable tangling. It is actually just as useful if not more on a small stage rather than a big one. I switch basses as much as 2 or three times per set and having the P bass wireless, is very handy in terms of no tangling.

I use a power adapter on the reciever and the transmitter is supposed to be good for about twelve to fourteen hours. I generally replace the AAA in it each Sunday after final rehearsal prior to our first service. I just never have cared for having cables underfoot.

At this point, I havent bought a wireless.... YET.

Standing on cables drives me nuts, I'm sort of hyper, & HATE feeling like I'm anchored to a single spot.

So, I'd love to have one... but, I have other gear stuff that I'd rather buy.... for the moment.

I was having a strange problem with my WMS system a while ago. During the second set it would cut out. At first when it did it i would quickly change to a lead (i kept a long lead attatched to the reciever for just this reason) but after getting the whole system changed and it still doing it i realised it was cutting out but also fading back in. took about 5 secs but i strated to live with it. it only happed once and always in the second set. After getting fed up and about to go back to just a lead i took the transmitter off the strap and use it in my back pocket and its been fine ever since. It could be that i used to use it upside down on the strap.

i love to have one so i could wander around... but just like any other wireless signal it could be interrupted or interfered and then... oh no there's no sound out of your amp and you're left on stage looking like a jackass
