Why are there so many stupid guitarists?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm definitely not saying all guitarists all guitarists are stupid or that most guitarists are stupid. They say stupid things and insist on them to the death when they honestly don't know what they are talking about. But I'm being serious, what do you think makes some guitarists so stupid. I'm starting to believe that there is something that draws stupid people to guitar. Once again I would like to clarify something, that I'm not saying only stupid people are drawn to guitar. But yes I would like to hear your theories.

First question: why is this in instruction?
Second question: can you be more specific?

Personally, I seem to think that there are just as many stupid bass players as there are guitar players.

I'd say much more people play guitar. If you made a ratio instead of counting, maybe there's about the same proportion of guitards as there is of basstards.

Ooh I never thought about that, interesting theory.

Fundamentally flawed premise.

Deeply silly question.

Utterly pointless thread.

I'm with you on that.. the ratio is WAY skewed, maybe as much as 7:1 guitarists to bassists. I have no facts to back that up, but just a 'gut' feeling. Also, not even taking into account that many, many bassists also play or have played guitar.

Guitarists and bassists are fundamentally different personality types. Accept them as they are and take the good with the bad.

My question is...is the ratio of stupid guitards higher than the ratio of drunken, unreliable drummers?

Hi.

We all are stupid or dumb in someone elses eyes, regardless of the instrument, or lack of it. It's just a fact of life.

Just like 90% of all the drivers feel/think/believe that they are better drivers than average Jill or Joe wheeling around.

Might as well ask, "Why are there so many stupid threads at TB?"

I think we've finally proven once and for all that the instrument we play is called a "Bass Guitar"

It's just a bass guitar, a one octave lower, rhythm instrument. Saying that guitarists are dumb is ignorant. After all, isn't it widely considered a bassist is a failed guitarist? if their so stupid, why do most guitarists know more theory, and have more technique than bassists? Bass can be dificult if your into that funk/slap stuff, but I'm a metal head, so that doesn't matter. The reason you see so many guitarists is because the instrument is cool. Since it isn't so low, you can do alot of stuff with them, faster than you could on bass, and it will sound better, because it is cleaner and louder, the strings are closer, and the necks are smaller. I'm picking up guitar soon for this reason.

I actually think the ratio of whiny bassplayers is higher than both combined.

Guitar players have to play chords, and therefore sometimes learn a bit more music theory.

Now a lot of very good famous bass players started out as guitar players. And many others, including myself, play guitar. I'm not a failed guitar player. I'm actually very good. But I like playing bass better.

You can do anything on bass you can do on guitar. It being low doesn't mean a thing. There are many great bass players who can out play most guitar players.

I think it used to be that guitar players had more technique because that was the role they filled. Bass players were in the back playing rhythm parts and didn't solos or anything.

That's changing though.

As far as bass not being as clear or as fast... how's this?

There are stupid people in the world. Some of them play guitar. Some of them play drums. Some even play bass. None of them play keyboards.

Seriously though, if that's the kind of musicians you are meeting... that's the problem!

Guitar is a popular instrument, so more people play guitar.

That was easy, wasn't it.

Why are there so many stupid bass player? Or Drummers? or even (shah!) Keyboard players? I guess it's cause we're all human... and as forest gump said... Stupid is as stupid... does.
