Why we musicians all love so much the E?

Sign in to disble this ad
The E note, scale, chord, blues pattern and so..

Every time I watch a video of some guy on youtube, or play with some fellow musicians improvising, and thousands of millions of songs, sometimes (Ok Not always of course) everything is done on the basis of E note..

I can't escape from this neither, every time I take my bass automatically start playing in E, is perfect for slap, it seems that is a note in which we feel comfortable.. I don't know if this happens to you, but I'm used to play notes where are the dots in the fingerboard, well technically I mean that not very often play the notes flat or sharp

I think it is a mistake because there are a lot of richness in the entire sound spectrum of an instrument.

E for Easy

couple reasons...first, there's an overall tendency to play in pentatonic modes. pretty easy to play something decent sounding in pentatonic without any musical knowledge, you don't have to worry about playing the 'wrong' scale steps. then there's tuning in fourths, it just lends itself to 'the box' fingering pattern, which is basically how pentatonic scales are played. second, the open strings A D G (and B if you're on a fiver) fit within the E minor pentatonic. for slapping especially, it's great to be able to use any string as open. third, i think it's just an instinctual thing to drone (or use as reference) on the lowest note on an instrument.

It's not that much about the note E as much as the open string. Tune your bass to D or F standard and give it to a kid or a guitard - they'll probably noodle in the keys of D or F

I'm not too much stuck on any one key. For me, it's more about what key will fit the music (we transpose sometimes instead of keeping the original key), what key is singable by the everyone, or what key would make the best transition between songs.

I hear that D is the new E.

I am a fan of A myself.

The reasons for E has been said--it's easy, and there are a lot of open notes you can use

It's not really musicians. I think it's bassists. I also play piano. On that instrument, I love C. I don't really like E on the piano. But I guess it's better than Eb

D and A minor are pretty standard jamming keys for me. B minor as well. I always sound check on E though, I've noticed.

I really could care less. They're all fingering patterns that just start in a different place.

Not all "musicians" over utilize the key of E.

Check out some jazz or classical music, or any genre that's not guitar oriented.

Play in E next time you're in a band with a trumpet player...

pretty soon you'll have a band without a trumpet player

Like someone else mentioned, it's more about the open bottom string. If you're playing a 4 string and all your strings are tuned (to each other, not necessarily at E), then playing off of that bottom note gives you a big range to play in. If I'm going to play blues, playing off the bottom string note gives me (probably) the biggest range to play in that I can. It's just convenient.

Personally, I like Eb. And Bb. Actually, I like flats in general.......
