WHY YOU LOVE IT

Ok, i've been wanting to throw this out for some time now. I've been a musician for a fairly long time (20yrs) and I feel like I have finally found my true love; BASS. In the last year it's entirely changed my musical life. I can't easily summarize all the reasons this has been so wonderful, but I would like to list a few and hope you will indulge me with your own!

Why I love it:

1. It makes the booty shake. All too obvious and oh so true.

2. I never really understood (until recently) that in so many contexts the bass is really the ROOT of the band. You know what i'm sayin'? I can move it all with just a little nudge...

3. Bass is so dynamic it is found in almost every genre of music, including so many that would never feature, say, a guitar. (ahem)

Need I say more?

Why do YOU love it?

I was a guitarist (I use that term loosely) during my teen years. Getting into a band required that I assume duties on bass because there were so many guitars abounding at the time. I started bassing and haven't gone back. I still play guitar when needed, but bass is my first love.

Why do I love it? Well, for the most part it's easy. I also think that my natural inclination is directed more toward bass playing. I love the depth and the character of bass and it's just fun for me to hold down the groove so that everyone else can show off.

I love it.I am a reformed guitar player.I loved the guitar until I picked up a bass. There is no comparison.I do not consider myself good, just solid, and I am loved for it.We recently lost our drummer due to serious indiscretion on his part,so we are a 3 piece acoustic guitar group until we find a replacement.I played acoustic guitar live for the first time in years-and I HATED it.Sure,it was different, but after like 2 minutes it was like-this sucks!I need that oomph of a bass-what gets the congregation tapping their feet, clapping, etc.

Guitar just sounds too thin unaccompanied for me. I get bored with it. The full sound of the bass is just more attractive, and I feel like I can play more freely on it. Of course, having played bass for a while before picking up a guitar, I found the latter more limiting. I feel like I just express myself better on a bass.

Also, in a metal context, I just find I can get much more into the music on a bass. Many (notably guitards) think that metal is all about the guitar. I don't know though, because to me, nothing can be as earth-shakingly, bone-crushingly heavy as a cranked and snarly electric bass.
