Wide neck acoustic guitars?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a 6 string acoustic electric guitar for a project.

I've got fat fingers and would like a wide neck guitar (my 5 string bass is a wide neck, too). I've got an electric guitar, Dean 12 string that I play with six strings.

Any makes or models I should look at?

This is what I'm looking for:
- no more than $800
- good pickup/preamp - work on stage w/o major feedback problems
- playable

Thanks,

You probably want to look into a nylon string classical EA guitar. I have the same sausage finger syndrome you describe, and my acoustic guiatar is a classical.

Look at Seagull acoustic guitars. Their standard necks are a little wider than the typical acoustic, but not as wide as a classical. Also, almost all their guitars have the option of adding electronics.

They're owned by Godin, which actually owns/runs several acoustic guitar companies. I can't vouch for Seagull personally, as I am still in the process of purchasing one, but I've read up on them a lot and they're recommended by many acoustic players on the Acoustic Guitar Forum:

I can vouch for Seagulls personally. And I say "Get one." I also have great big orangutan hands, and my main acoustic guitar is a 12-string because I like the wide neck, but I'm pretty comfortable on a Seagull.

My gitard told me that C-neck strats are wider(I know that a Strat's not an EA but wanted to add this info/BS/rumor).

Thanks for the tips!

After looking around, one site that does a good job of selling and describing acoustic guitars is elderly.com.

Their policy is to include the nut width in the description - if it isn't there, it's the standard 1-11/16".

Not a bad place to GAS for a vintage bass, either.

I'll be checking out the Seagull line.

Cheers,

I will +1 the Seagull. Also, if you are willing to buy off of ebay, any older Guild acoustic has a wider neck than most acoustics.

I play acoustic guitar. Check out Taylor. A popular choice for a finger-style player... wide necks, 1-11/16" is a standard strumming width as in Martin guitars. Taylors are 1-3/4". I find they have better string spacing and the company is known for the quality of their instruments. The lower end, 210/310/410 line is in your price range.

Awesome. Looks sweet and I love that 12th fret inlay. String spacing ok for you?

Taylors are a good suggestion too, but since he already got a Seagull then...

I love my Taylor, but you can't beat those Seagulls for the bargain.
