Wider strap for my aching neck?

I've developed a neck problem. No, not my basses neck, MY neck!

Long story short, the last two times I played my bass while standing I started to get cramped up at the base of my neck within 15 minutes which resulted in a very bad headache both times.

I play a Fender MIM Jazz 5 string and this thing weighs 10 pounds. Would a wider strap help? I don't see how it could but then I've never tried one before. Thought I'd ask before I spend.
