Will Basses rust at the beach?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to the beach in a week and i would like to bring my acoustic guitar and bass. Should I be worried about the metal on them rusting, since the air will be salty, and i'll be playing them on my beachfront porch?

The basses won't and neither should the hardware.

Assuming you don't leave them on the porch un-cased overnight, the salty air will not be any issue. I live at the Jersey Shore and own many basses ... not a lick of rust on any of them ...

The only thing I have seen in a beach-front situation is the polepieces on a Stingray rust - buddy of mine has a house gig in Destin, FL, and his polepieces were totally rusted!

Now, if you work a cruise ship gig, or are on the water constantly, I have seen it eat hardware. One time when I was working at Bass Central, we got an Elrick fretless on trade that I had to remove all of the hardware from and clean all of the corrosion off of.
