Will Tool ever stop playing in dropped D?

Pretty simple. I really don't know. It seems like they're never gonna stop.

It's multiple choice, so go ahead and get a side of carrots with your vote.

Why should they? Most of theyre songs are in D minor so to keep a low sound they prefer to use dropped D tuning.

Ik know they have experimented with other tunings but these where lower than what they normally use(dropped B).

yeah, no offense but this was kind of pointless. anyways I have always heard that Tool involves alot of musical theory, polyrythems and such in their music.(I don't listen to tool personally)

I voted all 3 because making this a multiple choice poll was kinda dumb. And no, they won't

I do. How does that constitute not being able to play? I don't like five stringers and play a lot in the key of D.

Care to explain yourself?

I'm just not a fan of alternate tunings. No slam on those who do. Just cranky today I guess.

Drop D is an excellent tuning, IMO superior to standard for certain styles of music. The idea that it's a cop-out tuning used only for playing power chords with one less finger is a bad stereotype. The real question that should be asked is "Will Tool ever CHANGE KEYS???"

Yeah there you go. It just seems like generally if you're in dropped D, you do play in D.

damn...

I didn't vote at all.

I think though that its kinda like how horns like B flat, and geetar players like E when in standard tuning.

You could argue that it's just their signature sound. And it does seem to be working; last I checked, they were doing pretty well for themselves - especially considering the time it takes them to produce new work.

Probably not, but I have heard them play in E( ) It was a cover, but still, they've done it.(You Lied by Peach....it was on Salival)

Also, the drop D thing being a cop-out tuning only applies for guitarists. In fact I find it HARDER than to play in drop D than standard.

true...I don't see why they should have to play in other tunings...they sound just fine as they are imo

It's where you drop your E string down a step to D.

It's popular among guitarists because it makes it very easy to play power chords (as if they weren't easy to begin with!)

Too much technical stuff for me. I don't know what that means. I hope I'm not playing in drop D since many people don't seem to like it. I just tune it untill my tuner says it's tuned.
