Wolfmother anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
I caught a video for Dimension late night on MTV a few weeks ago. They kind sound like a mix of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to me. They are from Austrailia and evidentally fairly popular there. I think their album will be out in the US soon. Anyone interested can listen to the whole CD here http://www.modularpeople.com/03/wolfmother/wm_full.htm

Wolfmother

I have their CD....my employee (from New Zealand) burned me a copy.

Really good....catchy riffs, good songs, light, heavy, melodic, dark...a good mix, and a lot of sound from 3 guys. The bass lines are great....highly recommended....

peace

Yes an aussie band:P, of course i know of them. I am not to fond of them however, their songs consist of repeditive sentences and only about 3 are sung through one song. But i still respect them highly because once i age i wish to form an australian rock band and id be happy to be 1/4 as popular as they are. I watched their live on Tv, out of being bored aswell. I suppose they arnt that bad:P

WOLFMOTHER!!!

I love these guys! The bassplayer also plays keyboards (sometimes at the same time). I guess they got that 70's rock thing happening a bit (the lead singer has a great afro), but that's cool to me. I'd recommend seeing them live too.

I love wolfmother.. It's a shame they hit mainstream with such a big impact though, because everyone obsessing over them kinda puts you off, ya know?

I've been listening to em ever since their EP. I've got a feeling they'll end up like Jet though unfortunantly.. Massive backlash of kids wanting to be different (ironic) and now NOT liking them.

However, hopefully it's not as bad, as they havn't blatantly ripped off songs like Jet did..

The one Wolfmother song that gets hella hella airplay here in Los Angeles sounds like something from Deep Purple in Rock, but the idiot DJs always say, "Doesn't this sound like Zeppelin to you?" No, no it doesn't, you schmucks.

Wolfmother are sure doing big things atm.. They are signed to Modular over here which is by far the "coolest" label to be on. I don't mind wht they do but again I feel they are going more for the "sound" than actually writing great SONGS. So there is heaps of hype, they have a "look" etc.. but I think they lack the substance and the quality of SONGS to really go the distance.

But then again once they are made (like they are) they can trade on the Wolfmother brand, not the music... once yor made, your made.. once you have the profile built its easy for Companies to promote it again and people will buy it even if it's crap (like Jet's album wil be). Try putting them out there as a brand new act without the "Jet" brand, they would most lightly find it very difficult to even get signed.

I like Wolfmother. For anyone interested in seeing them in the Sydney area, tickets go on sale today for a show at the Horden Pavillion in July sometime. (I shudder to think how much the ticket-price will be now, though)

For you guys in the States, they begin a tour on the 29th of April. Visit the site, and click on 'shows' if you are interested.
http://www.wolfmother.com/2005.html

The band aren't doing nothing new - they are a complete rip-off of acts like Sabbath and Zeppelin, and all that other heavy rock from the Seventies. But at least they aren't trying to kid anyone about it - I read an interview where the singer/guitarist was asked what their sound is...he said Sabbath and Zeppelin.

Bottom line - they aren't reinventing the wheel, and they know it. If you go to the show with this in mind, you will have fun.

Oh, and for those who have the album, and the original EP, why did they re-record those songs? I much rather the original versions (especially Dimension an White Unicorn) to the album versions. Who's with me?

im with you flatwound. White unicorn was much cooler and psychadelic on the ep. And man, you gotta love that hammond!

Theyre great live. But i hope they dont flop out like Jet, and prove everyone wrong.

Pfffft, you can't take all the credit for crowded house, remember Neil Finn?

Errr, on topic: I'm not really into classic rock, and from what I've heard that's what they sound like, I mean c'mon! look at the album cover!
