First off, this is kind of a dumb question, but do they usually have applications to fill out, or something else?

I haven't had the opportunity to play through many basses or amps, so i don't know much about them tone wise. I know more about how basses work than amps. Would they hire an apprentice, or something like that? I want to learn how to repair guitars, and set them up properly. idk...any advice?

I'm guessing you've never had a job before, but I could be wrong so...start off by getting and filling out an application. At least where I'm from, jobs at music stores are some of the most sought after by teens because every little nitwit who plays guitar, bass, or drums wants to work there. Do us all a favor by actually learning about what you're selling so as to better help your customers. At most businesses, someone will take you under their wing for at least (usually more) the first week and show you the ropes.

Don't try to BS your customers!! If you don't know something, don't try to bluff or lie.

You MUST know your stuff. I made it a BIG priority of mine to know everything I could about everything. Seriously. Like what the differences are between vacuum tubes, different kinds of speakers, etc.

The only thing that pisses me off more than someone who doesn't know anything about what they're selling, is that same person working in a music store. That's why I trust Long and McQuade. Their employees have been 100% honest if they don't know something, and go and get someone who does know, but for the most part, I find them to be very competetent and helpful. And if you're working in a music store you're probably going to either be on cash, or in the back unless you have good knowledge of guitars/bass/drums/whatever is sold in the store you apply to. You could maybe ask if you could work there on a non-paying basis (if cash isn't a problem) so you can learn to repair guitars as you said, but I dunno if that'd fly.
