The world is finally a beautiful place full of musical variety!

I used to always get annoyed by the fact that everyone in my school/year group just listened to the same pop stuff, because everyone else did.

Of course, I'm mainly into progressive metal, Djent, that sort of stuff, but thankfully, it is gaining popularity. I just hope it doesn't become a favourite of some because it is of others....

Anyone here listen to odd genres/music and get frowned upon?

i never got anyone to share my love for primus. all of my friends always said it sounded too psychadelic, weird, everything but nice or bearable.

luckily, about a year ago, a guy from america moved to my neighborhood. just in time to accompany me to a primus concert in berlin. we're close friends now and play in a band together.

prog metal is going already starting to become so popular, it's really getting ridiculous (not in a bad way) It's not my cup of tea, but ALL of my friends, co workers, anyone I've been talking to is getting more and more into it. Sadly, I believe nothing will be "original" to anyone anymore, people are so into fads, and Cliche things now a days.

I noticed this as a young man, most everyone listening to whatever was popular on the radio at the time. As I grew older, I became less and less interested in what was popular and sought out the music that appealed to me. The mix I play and listen to nowadays is considered outright bizarre by my close friends. As one gets older, the concerns of fitting in with one's contemporaries sometimes becomes FAR less of an issue.
